SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Marilyn Jo Eckles of Normal, who
4passed away on August 22, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles was born in Fort Collins, Colorado
6on August 9, 1930; she was the daughter of Herbert Stanley and
7Mary Irene McClelland Norlin; she married Charles "Ford"
8Eckles in Fort Collins on June 11, 1950; she earned her degree
9in Special Education from Illinois State University in 1970;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles developed a pre-school program at
12Sunnyside Center, where she created a curriculum and planned
13developmental activities for children of public housing and
14low-income families; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles authored children's books,
16including the well-known book, The Mending Tree; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles was very active in the
18Bloomington/Normal community; she was a 4H leader for about
19six years; she and her husband served as co-presidents of the
20Franklin School PTA; she was also a member of the League of
21Women Voters and served on several committees for the United

1Way; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles was an avid reader of mysteries,
3biographies, histories, and the classics; she was also
4interested in photography, her family's genealogy, and
5traveling with her husband; she loved spending time with her
6family; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles was preceded in death by her
8husband and her sisters, Ruth Everett and Margaret Lynn; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles is survived by her children, David
10(Eugenia) Eckles, M. Kathryn (Rick) Terven, Karen (Daryl)
11Ioerger, and Kristy (Morgan) Raines; her grandchildren, Katya
12Karina, Ricky (Michelle) Terven, Andrew (Amanda Trefzger)
13Terven, Wayne Terven, Adam Ioerger, Joshua (Erin Hall)
14Ioerger, Bret Ioerger, Jenna (Romel) Rehman, Gavin (Elizabeth)
15Raines, and Ryan (Megon) Raines; her granddaughter-in-law,
16Anne Terven; her 12 great-grandchildren; and her sister,
17Rosalie (Don) Defler; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Marilyn Jo Eckles and extend our sincere condolences to her
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
