SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gregory P. "Greg" Smith of Brimfield, who passed away on May 20, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Greg Smith was born in Streator to George Sr. and Ida (Schaefer) Smith on September 29, 1956; he married Patricia "Patti" Rios on December 30, 2000; and

WHEREAS, Greg Smith worked at Exelon for 27 years and then became a real estate investor; and

WHEREAS, Greg Smith was also a professional bass guitarist; more than anything, he loved jamming with his five brothers and two close friends, who comprised Smith Bros. & Co.; and

WHEREAS, Greg Smith served on the board of directors for America's Gold Star Families; he was also a member of Northwoods Community Church for almost 20 years, where he served on the Praise Team; he was a devoted father and grandfather; he was affectionately called "G.G." (Grandpa Greg); he was a wonderful provider and loved spoiling his grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Greg Smith was preceded in death by his father, George Smith Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Greg Smith is survived by his wife, Patti; his mother, Ida; his children, Jonette (Greg) Russell, Jesse (Jessica) Wenger, Stephanie (Travis) Canaday, Josey Wenger, and Tara (David) Martin; 13 grandchildren; his brothers, George (Lucille), Gerry (Donna), Gordon (Robin), Gary (Patricia), and Glen (Ann); and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gregory P. "Greg" Smith and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Greg Smith as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
