SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gregory P. "Greg" Smith of Brimfield, who
4passed away on May 20, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Greg Smith was born in Streator to George Sr. and
6Ida (Schaefer) Smith on September 29, 1956; he married Patricia
7"Patti" Rios on December 30, 2000; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Greg Smith worked at Exelon for 27 years and then
9became a real estate investor; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Greg Smith was also a professional bass guitarist;
11more than anything, he loved jamming with his five brothers and
12two close friends, who comprised Smith Bros. & Co.; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Greg Smith served on the board of directors for
14America's Gold Star Families; he was also a member of
15Northwoods Community Church for almost 20 years, where he
16served on the Praise Team; he was a devoted father and
17grandfather; he was affectionately called "G.G." (Grandpa
18Greg); he was a wonderful provider and loved spoiling his
19grandchildren; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Greg Smith was preceded in death by his father,

1George Smith Sr.; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Greg Smith is survived by his wife, Patti; his
3mother, Ida; his children, Jonette (Greg) Russell, Jesse
4(Jessica) Wenger, Stephanie (Travis) Canaday, Josey Wenger,
5and Tara (David) Martin; 13 grandchildren; his brothers, George
6(Lucille), Gerry (Donna), Gordon (Robin), Gary (Patricia), and
7Glen (Ann); and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Gregory P. "Greg" Smith and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Greg Smith as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
