SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Charles Gene "Chuck" Thome of Mapleton, who passed away on March 16, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Thome was born in Peoria to Charles Arthur and Lois (Mason) Thome on June 4, 1935; he was a veteran of the United States Army; he married Joyce Joanne Gilmore in Peoria on February 5, 1955; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Thome retired from Caterpillar, Inc., in 1995 after 40 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Thome was a charter member of the baseball and softball juggernaut known as the "Family of Hitters"; he was the batting champion in the Sunday Morning League in 1964 and was voted League MVP the following year; he was proud to have been a member of the Metro League in Rock Island and to have played in seven International Softball Congress World Tournaments; he was recognized as a tough clutch hitter against the top pitcher in the world and was inducted into the Peoria Area Sports Hall of Fame; he was an avid fisherman and hunter; he enjoyed following sports, being the #1 Jack Thome fan, and spending time with his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Thome was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce; his brothers, Art and Jack Thome; his sister, Carolyn Hart; and his great-granddaughter; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Thome is survived by his children, Chuck (Jada) Thome, Randy (Teri) Thome, Lori (Frank) Larson, Jennifer (Johnny) Ellis, and James (Andrea) Thome; his 16 grandchildren; his 17 great-grandchildren; his sister, Sherry Diegel; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Charles Gene "Chuck" Thome and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Chuck Thome as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
