SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles Gene "Chuck" Thome of Mapleton,
4who passed away on March 16, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Chuck Thome was born in Peoria to Charles Arthur
6and Lois (Mason) Thome on June 4, 1935; he was a veteran of the
7United States Army; he married Joyce Joanne Gilmore in Peoria
8on February 5, 1955; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Chuck Thome retired from Caterpillar, Inc., in
101995 after 40 years of service; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Chuck Thome was a charter member of the baseball
12and softball juggernaut known as the "Family of Hitters"; he
13was the batting champion in the Sunday Morning League in 1964
14and was voted League MVP the following year; he was proud to
15have been a member of the Metro League in Rock Island and to
16have played in seven International Softball Congress World
17Tournaments; he was recognized as a tough clutch hitter against
18the top pitcher in the world and was inducted into the Peoria
19Area Sports Hall of Fame; he was an avid fisherman and hunter;
20he enjoyed following sports, being the #1 Jack Thome fan, and
21spending time with his family and friends; and

1    WHEREAS, Chuck Thome was preceded in death by his parents;
2his wife, Joyce; his brothers, Art and Jack Thome; his sister,
3Carolyn Hart; and his great-granddaughter; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Chuck Thome is survived by his children, Chuck
5(Jada) Thome, Randy (Teri) Thome, Lori (Frank) Larson, Jennifer
6(Johnny) Ellis, and James (Andrea) Thome; his 16 grandchildren;
7his 17 great-grandchildren; his sister, Sherry Diegel; and his
8many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Charles Gene "Chuck" Thome and extend our sincere condolences
12to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
13it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Chuck Thome as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
