SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph G. Salerno; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Salerno was the owner and CEO of Salerno's Rosedale and Galewood Chapels; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Salerno was active in the Bloomingdale Township community for nearly 30 years; his positive influence could be felt everywhere; he served as chairman of the Roselle Chamber of Commerce and Industry and as director of the Taste of Roselle Commission; he was active with the Bloomingdale Lions Club, the Bloomingdale Parks Foundation, and the Chicagoland Italian-American Charitable Organization (CIACO); he also regularly supported the Bloomingdale Shop With A Cop program and the D.A.R.E. program in area schools; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Salerno was first elected as a Bloomingdale Township Trustee in 2001; in 2004, CIACO honored him as its Man of the Year; in 2008, the Roselle Chamber of Commerce named its Business Person of the Year award after him in his honor; he was also a fixture of the annual Taste of Roselle event, calling bingo at the chamber's tent for nearly 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Salerno was a tremendous supporter of the Bloomingdale Township Republican Party; he was a long-time precinct committeeman, a generous sponsor of candidates and events, a regular volunteer, and much more; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Salerno was the cherished father of George (Megan) and Frank (Lynda) Salerno; the loving son of the late George W. and Rose G. Salerno; the dear brother of the late Linda (the late Jimmy) Colucci; the adored Papa of Tiffany (Dave), Sophia, Joey, Evan, Elizabeth, and Ethan; and the dear uncle of many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joseph G. Salerno and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joseph Salerno as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
