Synopsis As Introduced Amends the Juvenile Court Act of 1987 and the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963. Provides that in a delinquency or criminal proceeding, a minor may not waive the right to the assistance of counsel in his or her defense. Effective immediately.
House Floor Amendment No. 1 Deletes everything after the enacting clause. Reinserts the provisions of the bill as introduced but provides that a minor may not waive the right to the assistance of counsel in his or her defense in a court proceeding. Changes the age of a minor who may not waive the right to the assistance of counsel in a court proceeding from under 18 years of age to under 17 years of age. Effective immediately.
