 1                    AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 556

 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend Senate Bill 556,  AS  AMENDED,
 3    in  Section  5,  Sec. 21-14, subsection (f), by replacing the
 4    grammatical paragraph beginning "The board of education of  a
 5    school district" with the following:
 6        "The  exclusive  representative, if any, shall select the
 7    classroom teachers and other non-administrative  certificated
 8    employee   members   of   a  local  professional  development
 9    committee.  If no exclusive representative exists,  then  the
10    classroom teacher members of a local professional development
11    committee  shall  be  selected by the classroom teachers that
12    come within the local  professional  development  committee's
13    authority,   and the non-administrative certificated employee
14    members of the local professional development committee shall
15    be selected by the non-administrative certificated  employees
16    that   come   within   the   local  professional  development
17    committee's authority.   The school district, charter school,
18    or governing body or board of control  of  a  cooperative  or
19    joint  agreement shall select the administrative members of a
20    local  professional  development  committee.   Vacancies   in
21    positions on a local professional development committee shall
22    be filled in the same manner as the original selections.  The
23    members  of  a local professional development committee shall
24    select  a  chairperson.    Local   professional   development

 1    committee  meetings shall be scheduled so as not to interfere
 2    with committee members' regularly scheduled teaching  duties,
 3    except  when otherwise permitted by the policies of or agreed
 4    to or approved by the school  district,  charter  school,  or
 5    governing  body or board of control of a cooperative or joint
 6    agreement, or its designee.".
