HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jonathan E. Laxamana, who passed away on December 7, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Jonathan Laxamana was born on October 4, 1970; he earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1992; and

WHEREAS, Jonathan Laxamana worked as the digital project coordinator for JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association, beginning in December of 2019; prior to that, he worked for 41Eightyseven as part of Location Services, The McGraw Hill Companies as a senior digital editor, The Counselors of Real Estate as communications manager, and Encyclopedia Britannica as a senior editor; and

WHEREAS, Jonathan Laxamana volunteered as the program director for the Chicago Filipino American Film Festival from October 2004 to May 2013 and as the program director for the Chicago Asian American Showcase at the Gene Siskel Film Center, beginning in October of 2013; and

WHEREAS, Jonathan Laxamana was a founding board member for Full Spectrum Features, a Chicago-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to driving equity in the independent film industry by producing, exhibiting, and supporting the work of women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ filmmakers; and

WHEREAS, Jonathan Laxamana was the beloved son of Rellie and the late Terry Laxamana; the loving brother of Joe (Denise) Laxamana; the fond uncle of Cathlyn Laxamana; the dearest nephew of Generosa Laxamana, Estelita Aquino, Marvilou Belo, Antonio Reynaldo, and the late Ferrelou Reynaldo; and dear family member to many loving relatives in the Philippines; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jonathan E. Laxamana and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jonathan Laxamana as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
