HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Raul I. Raymundo on the
4occasion of being named a 2024 Lincoln Laureate of the Order of
5Lincoln; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Established in 1964, the Order of Lincoln is the
7State's highest civilian honor for professional achievement
8and public service, honoring Illinois residents whose work
9uplifts every community in the State; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Raul I. Raymundo, an immigrant born in Mexico and
11raised in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, has long
12understood the challenges and strengths of working-class and
13immigrant families; through his financial acumen and
14leadership, he has been instrumental in revitalizing the
15Pilsen neighborhood through his work as CEO and co-founder of
16The Resurrection Project (TRP), a nonprofit organization that
17has aimed to build wealth in the neighborhood through
18connecting residents with low-interest loans and building
19affordable housing units since its inception in 1990; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Raul Raymundo earned his Bachelor of Arts from
21Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota in 1988 before
22returning to the Pilsen neighborhood, where he co-founded the

1TRP with a seed capital of $30,000 from six Chicago-area
2parishes in 1990; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Under Raul Raymundo's leadership, the TRP has
4leveraged its initial funds into more than $800 million in
5community investments, positively benefiting countless
6individuals throughout the western suburbs and the city's
7southwest side through the development of more than 1,000
8units of affordable housing in addition to immigration legal
9clinics, early childhood centers, senior satellite centers,
10community resource centers, and a charter school serving
11thousands of families; through his guidance, the nonprofit has
12become one of the region's most creative and effective social
13impact organizations today; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Raul Raymundo remains an active civic leader and
15mentor, co-founding several local and national organizations
16and serving as a trustee for his alma mater, Carleton College;
17he has given his time to several organizations and boards,
18often in leadership positions, including the American Business
19Immigration Coalition (ABIC), the Illinois Justice Project,
20Illinois Latino Agenda, the National Association of Latino
21Community Asset Builders (NALCAB), the St. Anthony Hospital
22Ministry Board, Start Early, and United Power for Action and
23Justice; he has also served on the advisory boards of several
24financial institutions, including BMO, CIBC, Fifth Third Bank,

1Huntington Bank, and local divisions of Self-Help Federal
2Credit Union; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Raul Raymundo and his fellow 2024 Lincoln
4Laureates join more than 350 distinguished Illinois residents
5of the Order of Lincoln since its inception, and they will be
6honored at the 60th annual Convocation and Investiture at the
7Chicago History Museum on April 13, 2024; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we congratulate Raul I. Raymundo on being named a 2024 Lincoln
11Laureate of the Order of Lincoln, and we recognize his service
12and dedication to the residents of Illinois; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Raul Raymundo as an expression of our esteem and
15respect.
