SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

105 ILCS 5/34-18.53 new

    Amends the School Code. Requires school boards to develop a policy for determining the classroom placement of children from the same family in the same grade at school. Requires the policy to state that determining placement of children of the same grade from the same family shall be handled on a case-by-case basis by the school, and the school shall involve both teachers and parents or legal guardians in the determination of class placement. Requires the policy to make the parent's or legal guardian's preference on placement a determinative factor. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
510-20.60 and 34-18.53 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/10-20.60 new)
7    Sec. 10-20.60. Multiple child placement. Each school board
8shall develop a policy for determining the classroom placement
9of children from the same family in the same grade at school.
10The policy shall state that determining placement of children
11of the same grade from the same family shall be handled on a
12case-by-case basis by the school, and the school shall involve
13both teachers and parents or legal guardians in the
14determination of class placement. The policy shall also make
