| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Edward H. "Ed" Meyer of Rock Island, who | 4 | | passed away on March 17, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Edward Meyer was born in Moline to Edward H. and | 6 | | Martha (Wagner) Meyer Sr. on August 17, 1924; he graduated from | 7 | | Moline High School in 1942 and served in the United States Navy | 8 | | from 1942 until February of 1946; he served aboard the USS | 9 | | Revenge AM-110 - a minesweeper, sweeping mines from the harbor | 10 | | so that the battleship USS Missouri could enter to sign the | 11 | | peace treaty; he married Gayle L. Cramer on April 23, 1949; he | 12 | | married Janet S. Carlson on August 15, 1987; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Edward Meyer retired from John Deere Plow & | 14 | | Planter Works in 1974 after 32 years of service as a tool and | 15 | | die maker; he and his first wife, Gayle, started Meyer's Tree | 16 | | Farm in 1950 which, on its 50th anniversary, became Meyer | 17 | | Landscape & Design; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Edward Meyer was a member of Trinity Lutheran | 19 | | Church in Moline and the Tri-City Cinema & Video Club; he | 20 | | enjoyed taking care of his yard and garden, feeding birds, | 21 | | fishing, making movies and videos, traveling, watching his | 22 | | horses race at the Quad-City Downs and county fairs, and |

| 1 | | visiting Las Vegas and Jumer's Casino; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Edward Meyer was preceded in death by his first | 3 | | wife, Gayle; his parents; and his great-granddaughter, | 4 | | Giselle; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Edward Meyer is survived by his wife, Janet; his | 6 | | sons, Jack (Jan) Meyer and Kurt (Jan) Meyer; his stepdaughter, | 7 | | Laura (Ed Bonnie) Carlson; his stepsons, Justin (Linda) | 8 | | Carlson, Philip (Lisa) Carlson, and Joel Carlson; his sister, | 9 | | Joyce Jacquin; his grandchildren, John (Danielle) Meyer, Allie | 10 | | (Eric) Pratt, Julie (John) Super, Heather (Jason) Powell, Drew | 11 | | (Stephanie) Meyer, Evan Meyer, Robin Chin, Kelli Carlson, Riley | 12 | | Carlson, and Addie Carlson; and his great-grandchildren, | 13 | | Genevieve, Helen, Vivian, Julie, Owen, Sophie, and Hawkes; | 14 | | therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 17 | | Edward H. "Ed" Meyer, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 18 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 19 | | further
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 21 | | presented to the family of Edward Meyer as an expression of our | 22 | | deepest sympathy.
