720 ILCS 5/7-1   from Ch. 38, par. 7-1

    Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Makes technical changes in a Section relating to the use of force in defense of a person.

1     AN ACT in relation to criminal law.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended by changing
5 Section 7-1 as follows:
 
6     (720 ILCS 5/7-1)  (from Ch. 38, par. 7-1)
7     Sec. 7-1. Use of force in defense of person. A person is
8 justified in the use of force against another when and to the
9 extent that he or she reasonably believes that such conduct is
10 necessary to defend himself or herself or another against such
11 other's imminent use of unlawful force. However, the person he
12 is justified in the use of force which is intended or likely to
13 cause death or great bodily harm only if he or she reasonably
14 believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death
15 or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another, or the
16 commission of a forcible felony.
