 1        AN ACT in relation to criminal law.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.  The Criminal  Code  of  1961  is  amended  by
 5    changing Section 7-1 as follows:

 6        (720 ILCS 5/7-1) (from Ch. 38, par. 7-1)
 7        Sec.  7-1. Use of force in defense of person. A person is
 8    justified in the use of force against another when and to the
 9    extent that he or she reasonably believes that  such  conduct
10    is  necessary to defend himself or herself or another against
11    such other's imminent use of  unlawful  force.  However,  the
12    person  he is justified in the use of force which is intended
13    or likely to cause death or great bodily harm only if  he  or
14    she  reasonably  believes  that  such  force  is necessary to
15    prevent imminent death or great bodily  harm  to  himself  or
16    herself or another, or the commission of a forcible felony.
