SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert R. "Dick" Aitken of Silvis, who passed away on October 11, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Dick Aitken was born to William and Ruby (Inglish) Aitken in Moline on April 2, 1927; he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. William P. Biddle during World War II; he married Carol Mefford in Springfield on March 5, 1949; and

WHEREAS, Dick Aitken worked in construction for 43 years, retiring in 1989; and

WHEREAS, Dick Aitken belonged to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, known today as Riverside UMC; and

WHEREAS, Dick Aitken and his wife enjoyed fishing and spending time at the family cabin in Conesville, Iowa; he also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and attending their games; and

WHEREAS, Dick Aitken was preceded in death by his wife; his daughter, Laury Heckenkamp; and his grandson, Kevin Depies; and

WHEREAS, Dick Aitken is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Jim) Depies; his son-in-law, Michael Heckenkamp; his grandchildren, Erik Depies and Mitchel (Jennifer) Heckenkamp; and his great-grandchildren, Jackson Depies, Sam Depies, and Cullen Heckenkamp; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert R. "Dick" Aitken and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dick Aitken as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
