SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to mourn the death of Pvt. Fay Gene Teter of Rock Island, who was killed in action at Betio, Tarawa Atoll, Gilbert Islands on November 22, 1943; and

WHEREAS, Pvt. Teter was born in Ardmore, Missouri to Fay and Bertha L. (Boyd) Teter on December 11, 1925; he attended Rock Island High School and was employed at the former Bridge and Iron Works in Rock Island before serving in the U.S. Marine Corps; and

WHEREAS, Pvt. Teter's surviving family members include his brother, Norman (Shirley) Teter and his sister, Judy Jo Hartman, as his parents, Bertha and Fay Teter and his sister, Bonnie Bopes, have passed away in the years following his death; and

WHEREAS, Pvt. Teter was accounted for in August of 2022 and has been brought home; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of Pvt. Fay Gene Teter and recognize the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Pvt. Teter.
