SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Marion Elizabeth Simon Leonaitis, who passed away on December 15, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Marion Leonaitis was born in Stacyville, Iowa to Joseph and Christina (Halfman) Simon on June 12, 1922; she graduated from Visitation Catholic School and completed nursing school at the St. Joseph Mercy College of Nursing; she served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a registered nurse; she was stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Seattle and was honorable discharged at the rank of lieutenant; she married Stanley Leonaitis at St. Bartholomew Church in Waukegan on August 31, 1957; and

WHEREAS, After the war, Marion Leonaitis took a position at the Wood V.A. hospital in Milwaukee; she then worked for the V.A. hospital in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Marion Leonaitis was especially loved for her bacon buns, which were baked from scratch and always the first item to sell out at every St. Bartholomew's Mothers Club bake sale; she volunteered with local Right to Life groups after she retired; she was most recently a parishioner of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church in Old Mill Creek; she was an avid gardener; and

WHEREAS, Marion Leonaitis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley; her sister, Kathryn Simon; and her brothers, Laverne, Kenneth, and Wilbur Simon; and

WHEREAS, Marion Leonaitis is survived by her son, Michel (Jean) Leonaitis; her sisters, Helen Church, Arlene Hartnell, and Jeanne Blake; her brother, Marvin Simon; her sisters-in-law, Luann (Laverne) Simon, Darlene (Kenneth) Simon, Charlotta (Wilbur) Simon, Joanne (Wally) Leonaitis, and Rita Leonaitis; and many beloved nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Marion Elizabeth Simon Leonaitis and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marion Leonaitis as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
