SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Marion Elizabeth Simon Leonaitis, who
4passed away on December 15, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marion Leonaitis was born in Stacyville, Iowa to
6Joseph and Christina (Halfman) Simon on June 12, 1922; she
7graduated from Visitation Catholic School and completed
8nursing school at the St. Joseph Mercy College of Nursing; she
9served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a registered
10nurse; she was stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Seattle
11and was honorable discharged at the rank of lieutenant; she
12married Stanley Leonaitis at St. Bartholomew Church in Waukegan
13on August 31, 1957; and
 
14    WHEREAS, After the war, Marion Leonaitis took a position at
15the Wood V.A. hospital in Milwaukee; she then worked for the
16V.A. hospital in Chicago; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Marion Leonaitis was especially loved for her
18bacon buns, which were baked from scratch and always the first
19item to sell out at every St. Bartholomew's Mothers Club bake
20sale; she volunteered with local Right to Life groups after she
21retired; she was most recently a parishioner of St. Raphael the
22Archangel Catholic Church in Old Mill Creek; she was an avid

1gardener; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Marion Leonaitis was preceded in death by her
3parents; her husband, Stanley; her sister, Kathryn Simon; and
4her brothers, Laverne, Kenneth, and Wilbur Simon; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marion Leonaitis is survived by her son, Michel
6(Jean) Leonaitis; her sisters, Helen Church, Arlene Hartnell,
7and Jeanne Blake; her brother, Marvin Simon; her
8sisters-in-law, Luann (Laverne) Simon, Darlene (Kenneth)
9Simon, Charlotta (Wilbur) Simon, Joanne (Wally) Leonaitis, and
10Rita Leonaitis; and many beloved nieces and nephews; therefore,
11be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Marion Elizabeth Simon Leonaitis and extend our sincere
15condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16her; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Marion Leonaitis as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
