SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Martha E. "Mari" McGinnis of Peoria, who passed away on November 19, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Mari McGinnis was born in Washington to Benjamin and Sanora (Schmidt) Pfeffinger on November 6, 1938; she earned her bachelor's degree in education from Bradley University; she married C. Dirk McGinnis at the First Federated Church in Peoria on October 24, 1958; and

WHEREAS, Mari McGinnis worked for District 150; and

WHEREAS, Mari McGinnis was an avid member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority, the PEO, the Peoria Quilt Club, and the Ivy Club; she was an amazing cook, an avid reader and seamstress; for many years, she made costumes for the Corn Stock Theatre; she loved the warm weather, especially in the British and United States Virgin Islands; she enjoyed sailing, and she and her family chartered sailboats all over the Caribbean for nearly 30 years; during her retirement, she and her husband spent 31 days sailing, beginning on the Illinois River and ending in Tarpon Springs, Florida, and lived on a sailboat for nine years; she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Mari McGinnis was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Lyle and Donald Pfeffinger; and

WHEREAS, Mari McGinnis is survived by her husband, Dirk; her children, Roz (Ron) Helms, Arran McGinnis, Polly (Mike) McNally, and Meghan (Arnel) Tejero; her grandchildren, quintuplets, Shannon, Bevin, Samantha, and Benjamin Helms, Meredith (Justin) Rager, Keegan and Colleen McNally, and Lilianna Tejero; her sister, Patricia Liston; and her sister-in-law, Jackie Kinsinger; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Martha E. "Mari" McGinnis and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mari McGinnis as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
