SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Don "Chico" Fernandes of Jacksonville, who passed away on March 1, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Don Fernandes was born on September 1, 1935 in Jacksonville; his parents were Walter and Abbie Drake Fernandes; he married Gail Urheim on June 16, 1956 at St. Cletus Church in LaGrange; and

WHEREAS, Don Fernandes was a 1953 graduate of Jacksonville High School; he was the longtime owner of the Baptist Electronic Supply Company and was proud of the significant business relationships he built throughout his career; and

WHEREAS, Don Fernandes was a member of the Jacksonville Country Club and a lifetime member of the Jacksonville Elks Lodge; he enjoyed his days at the Elks Club, winning games of gin rummy and exchanging witty banter with his many friends; he also enjoyed golf, traveling the world, spending winters in Texas, and spending time with his family; and

WHEREAS, Don Fernandes was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Walter, Edward, Harold, Stanley, Jimmie, Billie, and Robert; and

WHEREAS, Don Fernandes is survived by his wife, Gail; his children, Don (Ann) Fernandes, Patty McCabe, Susie Pennell, Julie (Jay) McNichols, and Mike (Kelly) Fernandes; his grandchildren, Jennifer Fernandes, Tyler McCabe, Jessica (Chris) Smyth, Rachel (Matt) McGuire, Blake Surratt, Logan McNichols, Emily McNichols, Alex Fernandes, and Kylie Fernandes; his great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Catherine Ward and Richard (Barb) Fernandes; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Don "Chico" Fernandes; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Don Fernandes as an expression of our sympathy.
