SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Don "Chico" Fernandes of Jacksonville,
4who passed away on March 1, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Don Fernandes was born on September 1, 1935 in
6Jacksonville; his parents were Walter and Abbie Drake
7Fernandes; he married Gail Urheim on June 16, 1956 at St.
8Cletus Church in LaGrange; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Don Fernandes was a 1953 graduate of Jacksonville
10High School; he was the longtime owner of the Baptist
11Electronic Supply Company and was proud of the significant
12business relationships he built throughout his career; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Don Fernandes was a member of the Jacksonville
14Country Club and a lifetime member of the Jacksonville Elks
15Lodge; he enjoyed his days at the Elks Club, winning games of
16gin rummy and exchanging witty banter with his many friends; he
17also enjoyed golf, traveling the world, spending winters in
18Texas, and spending time with his family; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Don Fernandes was preceded in death by his parents
20and his brothers, Walter, Edward, Harold, Stanley, Jimmie,
21Billie, and Robert; and

1    WHEREAS, Don Fernandes is survived by his wife, Gail; his
2children, Don (Ann) Fernandes, Patty McCabe, Susie Pennell,
3Julie (Jay) McNichols, and Mike (Kelly) Fernandes; his
4grandchildren, Jennifer Fernandes, Tyler McCabe, Jessica
5(Chris) Smyth, Rachel (Matt) McGuire, Blake Surratt, Logan
6McNichols, Emily McNichols, Alex Fernandes, and Kylie
7Fernandes; his great-grandchildren; and his siblings,
8Catherine Ward and Richard (Barb) Fernandes; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
11family and friends, mourn the passing of Don "Chico" Fernandes;
12and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Don Fernandes as an expression of
15our sympathy.
