HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jack E. Cook of Elgin, who passed away on February 1, 2011; and

WHEREAS, He was born on September 12, 1924 in Elgin; he was a life-long resident of Elgin, a graduate of the University of Illinois School of Pharmacy, and the proprietor of Parkview Drugs, Cook's Pharmacy, and Manor Pharmacy; and

WHEREAS, He was an active sponsor, manager, and coach of Cook's Cardinals women's fast-pitch baseball and women's hockey teams; and

WHEREAS, He was appointed to the Kane County Board from District 20 in 1989, and won election the following year; he served on the Board for 15 years, during which he also served as President of the Forest Preserve District for 8 years; and

WHEREAS, He helped create Chicago Wilderness, a regional alliance dedicated to protecting nature and enriching life; today there are more than 250 organizations involved in the program; and

WHEREAS, He was a proud veteran of World War II and the Korean War; he took great pride in helping fund and construct Veterans Memorial Park; and

WHEREAS, He was a life-long Cubs, Blackhawks, Bears, and Kane County Cougars fan; and

WHEREAS, Jack Cook was the beloved husband of Barbara; the father of Mari (Dale) Gathman, Tom (Michelle) Cook, and Stacey (Ron) Jakes; and the grandfather of Jay, Jonathon, Tom, Marti, Nic, Zac, Chris, Jon, and Brian; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Jack Cook; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jack Cook as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
