HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jack E.
4Cook of Elgin, who passed away on February 1, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on September 12, 1924 in Elgin; he was
6a life-long resident of Elgin, a graduate of the University of
7Illinois School of Pharmacy, and the proprietor of Parkview
8Drugs, Cook's Pharmacy, and Manor Pharmacy; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He was an active sponsor, manager, and coach of
10Cook's Cardinals women's fast-pitch baseball and women's
11hockey teams; and
 
12    WHEREAS, He was appointed to the Kane County Board from
13District 20 in 1989, and won election the following year; he
14served on the Board for 15 years, during which he also served
15as President of the Forest Preserve District for 8 years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, He helped create Chicago Wilderness, a regional
17alliance dedicated to protecting nature and enriching life;
18today there are more than 250 organizations involved in the
19program; and
 
20    WHEREAS, He was a proud veteran of World War II and the

1Korean War; he took great pride in helping fund and construct
2Veterans Memorial Park; and
 
3    WHEREAS, He was a life-long Cubs, Blackhawks, Bears, and
4Kane County Cougars fan; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Cook was the beloved husband of Barbara; the
6father of Mari (Dale) Gathman, Tom (Michelle) Cook, and Stacey
7(Ron) Jakes; and the grandfather of Jay, Jonathon, Tom, Marti,
8Nic, Zac, Chris, Jon, and Brian; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
12Jack Cook; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Jack Cook as a symbol of our sincere
15sympathy.
