HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend the Jack and Jill Chicago Chapter for its work to encourage the leadership development of African American children into future leaders; and

WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is a membership organization of mothers with children, ages 2 to 19, dedicated to nurturing future African American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving, and civic duty; and

WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America, Inc.'s objectives include creating a medium of contact for children that will stimulate growth and development and providing children constructive educational, cultural, civic, health, recreational, and social programs; since 1938, the organization has dedicated its resources to improving the quality of life of children, particularly for all African American children; and

WHEREAS, The Jack and Jill Chicago Chapter has operated since 1947, focusing on initiatives to equip members and youth with the power to make a difference in the lives of children and communities in Chicago and around the country; and

WHEREAS, The Jack and Jill Chicago Chapter has maintained a fervent commitment to service and community support with mothers and teens, building relationships with organizations like the Chicago Urban League, Humble Beginnings, IGNITE, and Chicago Youth Programs, and the organization's teen group previously won first place at the 2021 Midwest Regional Teen Leadership Conference for charitable giving; and

WHEREAS, The Jack and Jill Chicago Chapter provides a focus on social activism, leadership development, legislative advocacy, cultural awareness, and educational activities, including helping introduce Jack and Jill children of all ages to the act of protesting and standing up with confidence for their rights as African American children and teenagers while learning how to create a vision and how to achieve that goal in the process by mobilizing the community at large to rally behind a common cause; and

WHEREAS, The Jack and Jill Chicago Chapter also includes a Father's Auxiliary to encourage the involvement of fathers at every level of the organization to assist mothers in delivering programming that stimulates the growth and development of children; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend the Jack and Jill Chicago Chapter for its dedication and work to encourage the growth and development of African American children into future leaders; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Jack and Jill Chicago Chapter as an expression of our esteem and respect.
