SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Douglas K. "Doug" Hanson of Bloomington, who passed away on February 16, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Doug Hanson was born in Bloomington to Howland and Ruby (Nafziger) Hanson on April 25, 1933; he graduated from Stanford High School; he attended Illinois State Normal University and graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in agriculture education; he married Andrea Moore at the Stanford Presbyterian Church in Stanford on June 7, 1953 and served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957; and

WHEREAS, Doug Hanson worked as a district manager for Funk Seeds and Northrup King Seeds, later known as Syngenta Seed Company; he also worked as an Insurance Agent for Country Companies; in 1974, he and Andrea opened "One Hour Martinizing", later known as Hanson's Cleaners; after retiring from the agriculture industry, he remained active, working alongside his sons at Hanson's Cleaners until its closing after 42 years; and

WHEREAS, Doug Hanson was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church of Bloomington, where he served as an Elder and sang in the choir for over 50+ years; he was a member of the Masons and the AARP Farm Bureau; he was an avid University of Illinois fan and a lifetime member of the Ilini Booster Club; and

WHEREAS, Doug Hanson was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one sister; and a grandson; and

WHEREAS, Doug Hanson is survived by his wife of 64 years, Andrea; his children, Shelley (Bob) Hanson Loy, John (Cheryl) Hanson, and Joe (Leslie) Hanson; his grandchildren, Wendy (Paul) Schiaras, Patrick (Lisa) Reed, Sislye (Keith) Crow, Andrea Soper, Andrew Loy, Amy (Greg) Demas, Allison (Chris) Maute, Eddie (Jackie) Hanson, Ben Hanson, Emily (Brix) Byers, Abbey (Dan Zummo) Hanson, Jacob Hanson, and Connor Hanson; seven great-grandchildren; his special niece, Teri (Steve) Parker; his nephews, Rod Walker, Steve (Vanessa) Walker, and Randy (Mary) Walker: and his brother-in-law, Don Walker; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Douglas K. "Doug" Hanson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Doug Hanson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
