SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Douglas K. "Doug" Hanson of Bloomington,
4who passed away on February 16, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Doug Hanson was born in Bloomington to Howland and
6Ruby (Nafziger) Hanson on April 25, 1933; he graduated from
7Stanford High School; he attended Illinois State Normal
8University and graduated from the University of Illinois with a
9bachelor's degree in agriculture education; he married Andrea
10Moore at the Stanford Presbyterian Church in Stanford on June
117, 1953 and served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Doug Hanson worked as a district manager for Funk
13Seeds and Northrup King Seeds, later known as Syngenta Seed
14Company; he also worked as an Insurance Agent for Country
15Companies; in 1974, he and Andrea opened "One Hour
16Martinizing", later known as Hanson's Cleaners; after retiring
17from the agriculture industry, he remained active, working
18alongside his sons at Hanson's Cleaners until its closing after
1942 years; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Doug Hanson was a member of the Second
21Presbyterian Church of Bloomington, where he served as an Elder
22and sang in the choir for over 50+ years; he was a member of the

1Masons and the AARP Farm Bureau; he was an avid University of
2Illinois fan and a lifetime member of the Ilini Booster Club;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Doug Hanson was preceded in death by his parents;
5one brother; one sister; and a grandson; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Doug Hanson is survived by his wife of 64 years,
7Andrea; his children, Shelley (Bob) Hanson Loy, John (Cheryl)
8Hanson, and Joe (Leslie) Hanson; his grandchildren, Wendy
9(Paul) Schiaras, Patrick (Lisa) Reed, Sislye (Keith) Crow,
10Andrea Soper, Andrew Loy, Amy (Greg) Demas, Allison (Chris)
11Maute, Eddie (Jackie) Hanson, Ben Hanson, Emily (Brix) Byers,
12Abbey (Dan Zummo) Hanson, Jacob Hanson, and Connor Hanson;
13seven great-grandchildren; his special niece, Teri (Steve)
14Parker; his nephews, Rod Walker, Steve (Vanessa) Walker, and
15Randy (Mary) Walker: and his brother-in-law, Don Walker;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Douglas K. "Doug" Hanson, and extend our sincere condolences to
20his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
