SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Arthur J. Pope of Waukegan, who passed away on October 17, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Arthur Pope was born on August 19, 1951 in Tallahatchie, Mississippi to Oddie and Cora Pope; he graduated from Waukegan High School, where he played baseball and excelled in wrestling, becoming State champion; he married Carolyn Jean Robinson on May 20, 1978; and

WHEREAS, Arthur Pope worked as a cook at Abbott Laboratories; his passion for cooking spilled over into his home life and he could often be found making meals for his family; and

WHEREAS, Arthur Pope was a member of First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church in North Chicago, where he served as a Senior Pastor for several years; and

WHEREAS, Arthur Pope was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Doris Carter; his 4 brothers; and his lifelong friend, Sonny Harris; and

WHEREAS, Arthur Pope is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carolyn Jean; his daughters, Kimberly Yvette (Shawn) Forbes and Rachael Renee (Randall) Miller; his brothers, L.V. Pope, Willie (Eurice Cotton) Pope, Herbert (Cindy Serna) Pope, and Bobby (Beth) Pope; his sisters, Peal Nix and Helen Riley; his grandchildren, Mikah Miller, Gabriel Miller, Justice Forbes, Jazlin Forbes, and Trinity Miller; his sisters-in-law, Betty (Elton) Bulls, Myra Simpson, Brenda Davis, Trudy (Nate) Strowbridge, and Nanetta Pope; his brother-in-law, Larry McCorkle; his aunts, Teresa Pope, Lula Jones, and Martha Robinson; his nephew, Benjamin (Carmen) Simpson, Jr.; his niece, Antheria Simpson-Mars; his special friends, Valerie Harris and Shannon Jordan; his Godchildren, Timothy Donaby, and Josiah and Charlie Bouie and their mother, Deanna Bouie; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; his Pope's Florist employee family; and his dog, Rambo; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Arthur J. Pope, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Arthur Pope as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
