SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Arthur J. Pope of Waukegan, who passed
4away on October 17, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Arthur Pope was born on August 19, 1951 in
6Tallahatchie, Mississippi to Oddie and Cora Pope; he graduated
7from Waukegan High School, where he played baseball and
8excelled in wrestling, becoming State champion; he married
9Carolyn Jean Robinson on May 20, 1978; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Arthur Pope worked as a cook at Abbott
11Laboratories; his passion for cooking spilled over into his
12home life and he could often be found making meals for his
13family; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Arthur Pope was a member of First Corinthian
15Missionary Baptist Church in North Chicago, where he served as
16a Senior Pastor for several years; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Arthur Pope was preceded in death by his parents;
18his sister, Doris Carter; his 4 brothers; and his lifelong
19friend, Sonny Harris; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Arthur Pope is survived by his wife of 35 years,

1Carolyn Jean; his daughters, Kimberly Yvette (Shawn) Forbes and
2Rachael Renee (Randall) Miller; his brothers, L.V. Pope, Willie
3(Eurice Cotton) Pope, Herbert (Cindy Serna) Pope, and Bobby
4(Beth) Pope; his sisters, Peal Nix and Helen Riley; his
5grandchildren, Mikah Miller, Gabriel Miller, Justice Forbes,
6Jazlin Forbes, and Trinity Miller; his sisters-in-law, Betty
7(Elton) Bulls, Myra Simpson, Brenda Davis, Trudy (Nate)
8Strowbridge, and Nanetta Pope; his brother-in-law, Larry
9McCorkle; his aunts, Teresa Pope, Lula Jones, and Martha
10Robinson; his nephew, Benjamin (Carmen) Simpson, Jr.; his
11niece, Antheria Simpson-Mars; his special friends, Valerie
12Harris and Shannon Jordan; his Godchildren, Timothy Donaby, and
13Josiah and Charlie Bouie and their mother, Deanna Bouie; a host
14of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; his Pope's Florist
15employee family; and his dog, Rambo; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Arthur J. Pope, and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Arthur Pope as an expression of our
23deepest sympathy.
