SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bishop Larry Darnell Young of Decatur, who passed away on August 21, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Young was born on November 2, 1950 in Decatur to Theresa and Dan Young; he was a graduate of MacArthur High School and earned his Bachelor of Theology from Andersonville Baptist Seminary in 2002; at the time of his passing he was pursuing a Masters in Divinity; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Young was ordained in 1991 and spent 22 years serving as Assistant Pastor for Main Street Church; he was a founder of the Old King Orchard Community Center as well as Youth With a Positive Direction; he served as a leader for Teen Reach and as facilitator for Creating Lasting Family Connections for the Decatur Juvenile Justice System; he was a board member for various community associations; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Young retired from Heritage Behavioral Health in October 2012 and at the time of his passing was working for Webster Cantrell Hall; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Young married Tanya Young on August 1, 2008 and together they founded Way of Life Christian Center in January 2009; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Young was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings, Elsie Denise Chappell, Robert Young, and Dan Young, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Young is survived by is wife, Tanya; his sons, Bryan and Kevin Clark; his daughters, Andrea Young, Dawn Young, Joy Clark, Kristen Holder, and Kendall Wallace; his sons-in-law, Jamian Holder and Blake Wallace; his brothers, Iceley "Frizzo" Young, Albert "Dickey Boy" Young, Gary Young, Oscar Jose Leggions, and James "Jakey" Leggions; his sisters, Mable L. Grayned, Georgia Rogers, and Alberta "Petty" Young; his 9 grandchildren; his 3 great-grandchildren; his special loved ones, Sam James, Lorenzo Williams, Jerry Cole, Brian Slaw, Todd Dawson, Lawrence Trimble, Michael Young, Raymond Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Bishop Larry Darnell Young, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bishop Young as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
