SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bishop Larry Darnell Young of Decatur,
4who passed away on August 21, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bishop Young was born on November 2, 1950 in
6Decatur to Theresa and Dan Young; he was a graduate of
7MacArthur High School and earned his Bachelor of Theology from
8Andersonville Baptist Seminary in 2002; at the time of his
9passing he was pursuing a Masters in Divinity; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bishop Young was ordained in 1991 and spent 22
11years serving as Assistant Pastor for Main Street Church; he
12was a founder of the Old King Orchard Community Center as well
13as Youth With a Positive Direction; he served as a leader for
14Teen Reach and as facilitator for Creating Lasting Family
15Connections for the Decatur Juvenile Justice System; he was a
16board member for various community associations; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Bishop Young retired from Heritage Behavioral
18Health in October 2012 and at the time of his passing was
19working for Webster Cantrell Hall; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Bishop Young married Tanya Young on August 1, 2008
21and together they founded Way of Life Christian Center in

1January 2009; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Bishop Young was preceded in death by his parents
3and by his siblings, Elsie Denise Chappell, Robert Young, and
4Dan Young, Jr.; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bishop Young is survived by is wife, Tanya; his
6sons, Bryan and Kevin Clark; his daughters, Andrea Young, Dawn
7Young, Joy Clark, Kristen Holder, and Kendall Wallace; his
8sons-in-law, Jamian Holder and Blake Wallace; his brothers,
9Iceley "Frizzo" Young, Albert "Dickey Boy" Young, Gary Young,
10Oscar Jose Leggions, and James "Jakey" Leggions; his sisters,
11Mable L. Grayned, Georgia Rogers, and Alberta "Petty" Young;
12his 9 grandchildren; his 3 great-grandchildren; his special
13loved ones, Sam James, Lorenzo Williams, Jerry Cole, Brian
14Slaw, Todd Dawson, Lawrence Trimble, Michael Young, Raymond
15Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore,
16be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Bishop Larry Darnell Young, and extend our sincere condolences
20to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
21it further
