SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Reverend Carl Winfred Lawson, Jr. of Waukegan, who passed away on November 15, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. was born on November 18, 1957 in Chicago to Carl Winfred, Sr. and Johnnie Mae Lawson; he graduated from Westinghouse High School and studied at DePaul University and Moody Bible College; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. worked as a corporate Operations Manager for over 25 years and later served in Provider Relations for a healthcare corporation; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. was affectionately known as "Speedy", "Uncle Carlie", and the "Northshore Metra Train Pastor"; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. was a member of Mount Sinai Institutional Baptist Church in North Chicago for over 22 years; he served as the Director of the Men's Ministry, Director of the Married Couples Ministry, Sunday school teacher, and on the Board of the Christian Education Ministry; he also led the Gospel services at the Great Lakes Naval Base for many years; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother, Carl Wesley Lawson; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. is survived by his wife of 24 years, Pearl; his son, Matthew Carl (Crystal) Lawson, Sr.; his grandchildren, Aubrey Taylor Lawson and Matthew Carl Lawson, Jr.; his Godsons, Marell Hunter and Justus Wilhoit; his sisters, Merle, Shelia, Tonya, and Natasha; his brothers, Martin (Meko) and Terrance; his aunt, Janice Lyons; his mother-in-law, Rosetta Jackson; his father-in-law, A.G. (Merlean) Jackson, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Reverend Carl Winfred Lawson, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rev. Lawson, Jr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
