SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Reverend Carl Winfred Lawson, Jr. of
4Waukegan, who passed away on November 15, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. was born on November 18, 1957
6in Chicago to Carl Winfred, Sr. and Johnnie Mae Lawson; he
7graduated from Westinghouse High School and studied at DePaul
8University and Moody Bible College; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. worked as a corporate
10Operations Manager for over 25 years and later served in
11Provider Relations for a healthcare corporation; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. was affectionately known as
13"Speedy", "Uncle Carlie", and the "Northshore Metra Train
14Pastor"; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. was a member of Mount Sinai
16Institutional Baptist Church in North Chicago for over 22
17years; he served as the Director of the Men's Ministry,
18Director of the Married Couples Ministry, Sunday school
19teacher, and on the Board of the Christian Education Ministry;
20he also led the Gospel services at the Great Lakes Naval Base
21for many years; and

1    WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. was preceded in death by his
2parents, and by his brother, Carl Wesley Lawson; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. is survived by his wife of 24
4years, Pearl; his son, Matthew Carl (Crystal) Lawson, Sr.; his
5grandchildren, Aubrey Taylor Lawson and Matthew Carl Lawson,
6Jr.; his Godsons, Marell Hunter and Justus Wilhoit; his
7sisters, Merle, Shelia, Tonya, and Natasha; his brothers,
8Martin (Meko) and Terrance; his aunt, Janice Lyons; his
9mother-in-law, Rosetta Jackson; his father-in-law, A.G.
10(Merlean) Jackson, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
11and special friends; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Reverend Carl Winfred Lawson, Jr., and extend our sincere
15condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Rev. Lawson, Jr. as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
