SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Billy G. Goessman, who passed away on November 8, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Billy Goessman was born on January 4, 1927 in Ina; his parents were Gale and Pearl (nee Clinton) Goessman; he married Lorene Quertermous on December 10, 1949 in Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, Billy Goessman was a graduate of East Alton Wood River High School, where he played on the football team and basketball team for Chick Summers; and

WHEREAS, As a teenager, Billy Goessman worked after school in his parents' grocery store in East Alton; as a young adult, he built tanks at Amoco refinery before becoming a police officer; in his retirement years, he served as a ranger at Belk Park Golf Course; and

WHEREAS, Billy Goessman served his country as a member of the United States Army's 93rd Bomb Squadron in the South Pacific during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Billy Goessman served as an Illinois State Trooper for 25 years, retiring at the rank of sergeant; he also used his expertise to teach classes at the Illinois State Police Headquarters and Belleville Area College Police Academy; and

WHEREAS, Billy Goessman was a lifetime member of the Wood River Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2859 and a longtime member of the Wood River Moose Lodge #1349; he was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police; and

WHEREAS, Billy Goessman enjoyed watching Illinois basketball, reading, and spending time with his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Billy Goessman was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jack Goessman; and

WHEREAS, Billy Goessman is survived by his wife, Lorene; his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Bob Maguire; his son and daughter-in-law, Max and Marsha Goessman; his grandchildren, Lauren Maguire and Lenon (Angie) Maguire; his great-granddaughter, Darcy Maguire; and his sister, Joyce Jones; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Billy G. Goessman; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Billy Goessman as an expression of our sympathy.
