SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Billy G. Goessman, who passed away on
4November 8, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Billy Goessman was born on January 4, 1927 in Ina;
6his parents were Gale and Pearl (nee Clinton) Goessman; he
7married Lorene Quertermous on December 10, 1949 in Waukegan;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Billy Goessman was a graduate of East Alton Wood
10River High School, where he played on the football team and
11basketball team for Chick Summers; and
 
12    WHEREAS, As a teenager, Billy Goessman worked after school
13in his parents' grocery store in East Alton; as a young adult,
14he built tanks at Amoco refinery before becoming a police
15officer; in his retirement years, he served as a ranger at Belk
16Park Golf Course; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Billy Goessman served his country as a member of
18the United States Army's 93rd Bomb Squadron in the South
19Pacific during World War II; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Billy Goessman served as an Illinois State Trooper

1for 25 years, retiring at the rank of sergeant; he also used
2his expertise to teach classes at the Illinois State Police
3Headquarters and Belleville Area College Police Academy; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Billy Goessman was a lifetime member of the Wood
5River Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2859 and a longtime member
6of the Wood River Moose Lodge #1349; he was also a member of
7the Fraternal Order of Police; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Billy Goessman enjoyed watching Illinois
9basketball, reading, and spending time with his family and
10friends; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Billy Goessman was preceded in death by his
12parents and his brother, Jack Goessman; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Billy Goessman is survived by his wife, Lorene;
14his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Bob Maguire; his son
15and daughter-in-law, Max and Marsha Goessman; his
16grandchildren, Lauren Maguire and Lenon (Angie) Maguire; his
17great-granddaughter, Darcy Maguire; and his sister, Joyce
18Jones; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
21family and friends, mourn the passing of Billy G. Goessman; and
