SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago was originally founded in 1864 as the Addison Lutheran Teachers Seminary; and

WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago established its current River Forest campus in 1914; and

WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago will celebrate its 150th year as an institution of higher learning in 2014; and

WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago is a private, liberal arts-based university, centered in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and affiliated with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod; and

WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago is recognized as a State, regional, and national leader in education, public service, and servant leadership; and

WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago is comprised of 4 academic colleges which offer baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral degrees offered throughout the nation and abroad; and

WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has graduated over 34,000 alumni who have served and led in churches, schools, institutions, and communities throughout the State and beyond in a variety of vocations; and

WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has achieved record enrollment numbers, including nearly 1,500 undergraduate, 4,000 graduate, and 350 doctoral students; and

WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has established educational partnerships with many nations, including China, Spain, Italy, and England, in order to enhance and promote a globalized educational experience; and

WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has made adult education a priority through enhanced online courses and accelerated bachelor's degrees; and

WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has grown and continues to grow exponentially with the creation of the Walter and Maxine Christopher Center for Learning and Leadership, the College of Business, the College of Graduate and Innovative Programs, and the Center for Global Outreach; and

WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago continues to make significant contributions to underserved populations in Illinois through its dedication to servant leadership; and

WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago equips men and women to serve and lead with integrity, creativity, competence, and compassion in a diverse, interconnected, and increasingly urbanized church, State, and world; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate the date of October 12, 2013 as Concordia University Chicago Day in the State of Illinois in recognition of the school's role in shaping the lives of countless students throughout its history; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Concordia University Chicago as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
