SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago was originally
3founded in 1864 as the Addison Lutheran Teachers Seminary; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago established its
5current River Forest campus in 1914; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago will celebrate its
7150th year as an institution of higher learning in 2014; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago is a private,
9liberal arts-based university, centered in the gospel of Jesus
10Christ, and affiliated with the Lutheran Church - Missouri
11Synod; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago is recognized as a
13State, regional, and national leader in education, public
14service, and servant leadership; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago is comprised of 4
16academic colleges which offer baccalaureate, master's, and
17doctoral degrees offered throughout the nation and abroad; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has graduated over
1934,000 alumni who have served and led in churches, schools,

1institutions, and communities throughout the State and beyond
2in a variety of vocations; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has achieved record
4enrollment numbers, including nearly 1,500 undergraduate,
54,000 graduate, and 350 doctoral students; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has established
7educational partnerships with many nations, including China,
8Spain, Italy, and England, in order to enhance and promote a
9globalized educational experience; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has made adult
11education a priority through enhanced online courses and
12accelerated bachelor's degrees; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has grown and
14continues to grow exponentially with the creation of the Walter
15and Maxine Christopher Center for Learning and Leadership, the
16College of Business, the College of Graduate and Innovative
17Programs, and the Center for Global Outreach; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago continues to make
19significant contributions to underserved populations in
20Illinois through its dedication to servant leadership; and

1    WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago equips men and women
2to serve and lead with integrity, creativity, competence, and
3compassion in a diverse, interconnected, and increasingly
4urbanized church, State, and world; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate the date
7of October 12, 2013 as Concordia University Chicago Day in the
8State of Illinois in recognition of the school's role in
9shaping the lives of countless students throughout its history;
10and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Concordia University Chicago as a symbol of our
13respect and esteem.
