SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bruce Miller Macfarlane of Lake Forest, who passed away on July 15, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane was born on November 28, 1919 in Chicago to Alice and Wilbert E. Macfarlane; and

WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane was a graduate of the Chicago Latin School and the Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania; he graduated from Princeton University with the class of 1942; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Bruce Macfarlane joined the United States Navy during World War II; he served with pride as a Patrol Torpedo "PT" Boat Captain (Squadrons 14, 18, and 39) from 1942 to 1946; and

WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane worked as a news anchor for WGN Radio and WGN-TV for more than 10 years; in 1958, he joined Bronson, Dennehy and Ulseth Insurance Company, which was subsequently acquired by the Fred S. James Agency; he remained in his position until 1984, when he entered real estate sales, where he remained until his retirement in 2001; and

WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane served the City of Lake Forest faithfully as head of the City Council's Caucus Committee and as a Ward Chairman, Alderman, and Mayor; and

WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane was an avid athlete who particularly loved golf; he won the Onwentsia Club Championship in 1958 and 1983 and travelled to Eleuthera in the Bahamas, California, and Scotland to play golf with his friends; and

WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane was the beloved husband of 63 years to Barbara King Macfarlane; the loving father of David B. (Vicky) Macfarlane and the late Robert A. (Clarene) Macfarlane; the adored grandfather of Amanda and Robert B. Macfarlane and Julie (Rick) Macfarlane Hild; the great-grandfather of Bronwyn Macfarlane and Lily Anna Hild; and the brother of the late Frederic L. Macfarlane; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Bruce Miller Macfarlane; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bruce Macfarlane as an expression of our sympathy.
