SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bruce Miller Macfarlane of Lake Forest,
4who passed away on July 15, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane was born on November 28, 1919 in
6Chicago to Alice and Wilbert E. Macfarlane; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane was a graduate of the Chicago
8Latin School and the Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania; he
9graduated from Princeton University with the class of 1942; and
 
10    WHEREAS, After graduation, Bruce Macfarlane joined the
11United States Navy during World War II; he served with pride as
12a Patrol Torpedo "PT" Boat Captain (Squadrons 14, 18, and 39)
13from 1942 to 1946; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane worked as a news anchor for WGN
15Radio and WGN-TV for more than 10 years; in 1958, he joined
16Bronson, Dennehy and Ulseth Insurance Company, which was
17subsequently acquired by the Fred S. James Agency; he remained
18in his position until 1984, when he entered real estate sales,
19where he remained until his retirement in 2001; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane served the City of Lake Forest

1faithfully as head of the City Council's Caucus Committee and
2as a Ward Chairman, Alderman, and Mayor; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane was an avid athlete who
4particularly loved golf; he won the Onwentsia Club Championship
5in 1958 and 1983 and travelled to Eleuthera in the Bahamas,
6California, and Scotland to play golf with his friends; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane was the beloved husband of 63
8years to Barbara King Macfarlane; the loving father of David B.
9(Vicky) Macfarlane and the late Robert A. (Clarene) Macfarlane;
10the adored grandfather of Amanda and Robert B. Macfarlane and
11Julie (Rick) Macfarlane Hild; the great-grandfather of Bronwyn
12Macfarlane and Lily Anna Hild; and the brother of the late
13Frederic L. Macfarlane; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
16family and friends, mourn the passing of Bruce Miller
17Macfarlane; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Bruce Macfarlane as an expression of
20our sympathy.
