SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gary V. Sandberg of Peoria, who passed away on July 19, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg was born on March 21, 1948 in Princeton; his parents were H. Albert and Dorothy Wilkins Sandberg; and

WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg earned his undergraduate degree in architecture and construction engineering from Southern Illinois University in 1968; and

WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg first served the City of Peoria as Director of the Inspections Department from 1978 to 1989; at the time, he was the only architect in the nation to head an inspections department; and

WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg was first elected to the Peoria City Council in 1989; he served the citizens of Peoria as City Councilman for the Second District, and was serving as City Councilman At-Large at the time of his passing; and

WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg was a fan of the New York Yankees and Formula One racing; he was an avid motorcyclist, having completed the "Iron Butt" ride from the northern tip of Alaska to the southern tip of Key West, Florida and ridden Route 66 several times; he also enjoyed collecting British cars, driving race cars, and Beamish Stout; and

WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg is survived by his children, Cari Sandberg and Colt Sandberg; his grandchildren, Devin and Caera Berry; his brother, James (Peg) Sandberg; his nieces, Elise Bartman and Sara Kloepping; and his beloved Green-Wing Macaw, Jelly Bean; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Gary V. Sandberg; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gary Sandberg as an expression of our sympathy.
