SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gary V. Sandberg of Peoria, who passed
4away on July 19, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg was born on March 21, 1948 in
6Princeton; his parents were H. Albert and Dorothy Wilkins
7Sandberg; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg earned his undergraduate degree in
9architecture and construction engineering from Southern
10Illinois University in 1968; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg first served the City of Peoria as
12Director of the Inspections Department from 1978 to 1989; at
13the time, he was the only architect in the nation to head an
14inspections department; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg was first elected to the Peoria City
16Council in 1989; he served the citizens of Peoria as City
17Councilman for the Second District, and was serving as City
18Councilman At-Large at the time of his passing; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg was a fan of the New York Yankees
20and Formula One racing; he was an avid motorcyclist, having

1completed the "Iron Butt" ride from the northern tip of Alaska
2to the southern tip of Key West, Florida and ridden Route 66
3several times; he also enjoyed collecting British cars, driving
4race cars, and Beamish Stout; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg is survived by his children, Cari
6Sandberg and Colt Sandberg; his grandchildren, Devin and Caera
7Berry; his brother, James (Peg) Sandberg; his nieces, Elise
8Bartman and Sara Kloepping; and his beloved Green-Wing Macaw,
9Jelly Bean; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
12family and friends, mourn the passing of Gary V. Sandberg; and
13be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Gary Sandberg as an expression of
16our sympathy.
