SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John K. Sciortino, Sr., who passed away on September 19, 2014; and

WHEREAS, John Sciortino, Sr. was born on December 28, 1941 in Melrose Park; his parents were Florence and Sam Sciortino; and

WHEREAS, John Sciortino, Sr. worked for the Chicago and North Western Railway for 38 years; he also worked for Leyden High School District 212 for 13 years and for the Northern Asphalt Company for 11 years; and

WHEREAS, In 1994, John Sciortino, Sr. received a heart transplant from donor Rick Orton after using the HeartMate machine for 47 days and becoming the device's longest surviving user; he was an active member of the OTS McHenry County Heart Association and was an avid public speaker on heart health; and

WHEREAS, John Sciortino, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Salins; and his beloved dog, Willie; and

WHEREAS, John Sciortino, Sr. is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia (nee Ellrich); 2 children, Angela and John K., Jr. (Brandi) Sciortino; a granddaughter, Ana; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of John K. Sciortino, Sr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Sciortino, Sr. as an expression of our sympathy.
