SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John K. Sciortino, Sr., who passed away
4on September 19, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Sciortino, Sr. was born on December 28, 1941
6in Melrose Park; his parents were Florence and Sam Sciortino;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Sciortino, Sr. worked for the Chicago and
9North Western Railway for 38 years; he also worked for Leyden
10High School District 212 for 13 years and for the Northern
11Asphalt Company for 11 years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In 1994, John Sciortino, Sr. received a heart
13transplant from donor Rick Orton after using the HeartMate
14machine for 47 days and becoming the device's longest surviving
15user; he was an active member of the OTS McHenry County Heart
16Association and was an avid public speaker on heart health; and
 
17    WHEREAS, John Sciortino, Sr. was preceded in death by his
18parents; a sister, Barbara Salins; and his beloved dog, Willie;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Sciortino, Sr. is survived by his wife of 47

1years, Patricia (nee Ellrich); 2 children, Angela and John K.,
2Jr. (Brandi) Sciortino; a granddaughter, Ana; and many nieces
3and nephews; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
6family and friends, mourn the passing of John K. Sciortino,
7Sr.; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of John Sciortino, Sr. as an expression
10of our sympathy.
