HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Pastor Jeffery Ivory Sr. of Peoria, who passed away on May 8, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. was born on November 20, 1933, in Gainesville, Alabama, and was raised in York, Alabama; his parents were John L. and Sephronia Ivory; he married Gladys Sturdivant on August 20, 1953, in Meridian, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. retired from Allied and Hyster's Construction Companies in 1973 before being called to the pastorship; he served as Pastor of Grace Baptist Church for 40 years and directed the church's activities; during his leadership, the church grew to over 800 members; and

WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. was a past moderator of the Central District Association, past president of the Baptist Ministerial Alliance and the Central District Congress of Christian Education, and a member of the Peoria Christian Leadership Council; he was also a past board member of the Minority Affairs Council for the Illinois Department of Transportation for District 4, dedicated to improving minority participation for black contractors, and a past board member of the Central Illinois Black Expo; and

WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, fishing, and cooking; he also enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and church family; and

WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffery Ivory, Jr.; his daughter, Erica Dawn Ivory; and his 3 brothers and 2 sisters; and

WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. is survived by his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Gladys Ivory; his sons, Ricky (Carolyn) Ivory, Larry (Janis) Ivory, Rodney (Jennifer) Ivory, and Darren Ivory; his daughters, Lorraine (William) Sephus, Teresa (Lonnie) Hayes, Beverly (Eric) Cameron, and Ariel Ivory; his sister, Marjorite Shelton; his 18 grandchildren; his 22 great-grandchildren; his 3 great-great-grandchildren; his godson, Jamar Thomas; his many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; and his Grace Baptist Church family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Pastor Jeffery Ivory Sr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jeffery Ivory Sr. as an expression of our sympathy.
