HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Pastor
4Jeffery Ivory Sr. of Peoria, who passed away on May 8, 2013;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. was born on November 20, 1933,
7in Gainesville, Alabama, and was raised in York, Alabama; his
8parents were John L. and Sephronia Ivory; he married Gladys
9Sturdivant on August 20, 1953, in Meridian, Mississippi; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. retired from Allied and Hyster's
11Construction Companies in 1973 before being called to the
12pastorship; he served as Pastor of Grace Baptist Church for 40
13years and directed the church's activities; during his
14leadership, the church grew to over 800 members; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. was a past moderator of the
16Central District Association, past president of the Baptist
17Ministerial Alliance and the Central District Congress of
18Christian Education, and a member of the Peoria Christian
19Leadership Council; he was also a past board member of the
20Minority Affairs Council for the Illinois Department of
21Transportation for District 4, dedicated to improving minority
22participation for black contractors, and a past board member of

1the Central Illinois Black Expo; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. enjoyed watching the Chicago
3Cubs, fishing, and cooking; he also enjoyed spending time with
4his wife, children, grandchildren, and church family; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. is preceded in death by his
6parents; his son, Jeffery Ivory, Jr.; his daughter, Erica Dawn
7Ivory; and his 3 brothers and 2 sisters; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. is survived by his beloved wife
9of almost 60 years, Gladys Ivory; his sons, Ricky (Carolyn)
10Ivory, Larry (Janis) Ivory, Rodney (Jennifer) Ivory, and Darren
11Ivory; his daughters, Lorraine (William) Sephus, Teresa
12(Lonnie) Hayes, Beverly (Eric) Cameron, and Ariel Ivory; his
13sister, Marjorite Shelton; his 18 grandchildren; his 22
14great-grandchildren; his 3 great-great-grandchildren; his
15godson, Jamar Thomas; his many nieces, nephews, other
16relatives, and friends; and his Grace Baptist Church family;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
21Pastor Jeffery Ivory Sr.; and be it further
