SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Laton Ernest "Ernie" Mahan of Dunlap,
4who passed away on September 25, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ernie Mahan was born to Sylvester and June (Ford)
6Mahan in Peoria on January 25, 1947; he served in the U.S.
7Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968; he
8married Mary Ellen Kerker in Peoria on February 15, 1969; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ernie Mahan worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for over
1030 years, retiring as a line foreman in 2002; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ernie Mahan's passion for helping others led him
12to serve in a number of positions revolving around human
13services, including as an EMT, a volunteer firefighter for the
14Northern Tazewell Fire Department, and a court-appointed
15children's advocate through Court Appointed Special Advocates
16(CASA); he also volunteered at different organizations,
17including the Friendship House, Meals on Wheels, and the
18Special Education Association of Peoria County (SEAPCO); and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ernie Mahan was preceded in death by his parents;
20and

1    WHEREAS, Ernie Mahan is survived by his wife; his sons,
2Dennis (Gretchen) Mahan and Chris Mahan; his daughter, Jill
3(Chuck) Mathes; his grandchildren, Gabriel, Helena, Haydn,
4Faith, and Brody; his brother, Ken Mahan; his sisters, Sue
5(Scott) Bitcon and Carol Young; and several nieces and
6nephews; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Laton Ernest "Ernie" Mahan and extend our sincere condolences
10to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
11it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Ernie Mahan as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
