SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of James Henry "Jim" Goebbert of Huntley,
4who passed away on June 17, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Goebbert was born to George and Ernestine
6Goebbert on May 28, 1929; he was baptized at St. John Lutheran
7Church on June 8, 1929; he graduated from Arlington Heights
8High School; he served in the U.S. Marines from 1951 to 1953;
9he married Esther Von Bergen at St. Luke Lutheran Church in
10Itasca on November 17, 1956; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Jim Goebbert tended to his family's farm from an
12early age; in 1972, he bought his own 40-acre farm in South
13Barrington and moved his family there; he owned and operated
14Goebbert's Farm and Garden Center in South Barrington and
15Goebbert's Pumpkin Patch in Pingree Grove; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Jim Goebbert served on the Cook County Extension
17Council for six years; he was elected to the Cook County Farm
18Bureau in 1974 and served in various roles until 2006; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Jim Goebbert was a loving husband, father,
20grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend; and

1    WHEREAS, Jim Goebbert was preceded in death by his parents
2and his brother-in-law, Eugene Lichthardt; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jim Goebbert is survived by his wife; his
4children, Luanne (Curtis) Smith, Lee (Diane) Goebbert, and
5Lloyd (Terry) Goebbert; his grandchildren, Kelly (Ross)
6Conner, Ben (Jen) Goebbert, Jessica (Simon) Crass, Jacob
7(Heather) Goebbert, James (Brittany) Goebbert, John (Luis)
8Smith, and Ryan (Kaleigh) Smith; 11 great-grandchildren; and
9his sister, Lilah Lichthardt; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12James Henry "Jim" Goebbert and extend our sincere condolences
13to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
14it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Jim Goebbert as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
