SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Warren Eugene "Gene" Miles of Nokomis, who passed away on April 19, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Gene Miles was born to Warren Harding and Eva Rita (Pieper) Miles in McLeansboro on February 7, 1942; he graduated from Nokomis High School in 1960; he attended the University of Illinois; he married Gloria Kamer Cox, and they later divorced; he then married Jane Parker on June 20, 1981; and

WHEREAS, Gene Miles and his father, Warren, owned and operated Miles Construction, with the business's very early employees including his own sons, Doug and Jeff; he was also the owner of Miles Ford in Nokomis for many years; and

WHEREAS, Gene Miles was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, the Jaycees, the Knights of Columbus, the Masons, the Shriners, and the Nokomis City Council; he also served as a member on the Montgomery County Board for over 16 years; and

WHEREAS, Gene Miles was a car enthusiast who also enjoyed golfing, doing yard work, and mowing; most of all, he loved sitting on his patio while watching his grandchildren ride bikes and play ball in the yard; and

WHEREAS, Gene Miles is survived by his wife, Jane; his children, Doug (Darla) Miles, Jeff (Jill Bertolino Fasiq) Miles, and Jessie (Justin) Hamrock; his grandchildren, Jordan Miles, Austin Miles, Jack Hamrock, Joslyn Hamrock, and Jace Hamrock; his great-granddaughter, Shine; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Debbie (Mike) Coling and Neil (Deb) Parker; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Warren Eugene "Gene" Miles and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gene Miles as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
