1    AN ACT concerning health.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 1. References to Act. This Act may be referred to
5as the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Act.
 
6    Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and
7Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
8amended by adding Section 2310-730 as follows:
 
9    (20 ILCS 2310/2310-730 new)
10    Sec. 2310-730. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness
11Program.
12    (a) Subject to appropriation, the Department of Public
13Health, in conjunction with experts in the field of Duchenne
14muscular dystrophy, shall develop mandatory protocols and best
15practices for providing the necessary medical guidance for
16Duchenne muscular dystrophy in Illinois.
17    (b) To raise awareness about Duchenne muscular dystrophy,
18the protocols and best practices developed by the Department
19under subsection (a):
20        (1) shall be published on a designated and publicly
21    accessible webpage;
22        (2) shall include up-to-date information about

1    Duchenne muscular dystrophy;
2        (3) shall reference peer-reviewed scientific research
3    articles;
4        (4) shall incorporate guidance and recommendations
5    from the National Institutes of Health, and any other
6    persons or entities determined by the Department to have
7    particular expertise in Duchenne muscular dystrophy; and
8        (5) shall be distributed to physicians, other health
9    care professionals and providers, and persons subject to
10    Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
11    (c) The Department shall prepare a report of all efforts
12undertaken by the Department under this Section. The report
13shall be posted on the Department's website and distributed to
14local health departments and to any other facilities as
15determined by the Department.
