HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Keith Fahrney for his heroic actions amid the stabbing spree that took place in Rockford on March 27, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Keith Fahrney, who is currently studying to be an engineer, was driving home from his trigonometry class at Rock Valley College when he noticed a commotion outside his neighbor's home; he immediately jumped out of his car to see how he could help a fellow citizen in need; once he realized the severity of the horrific scene he had encountered, he acted swiftly to help the woman who was the latest to fall victim to the assailant's violent rampage; and

WHEREAS, Keith Fahrney bravely wrestled the assailant to the ground as the man attempted to flee in Fahrney's vehicle and fought to protect himself and others until police arrived on the scene, who then successfully secured the assailant in their custody after a brief foot chase; and

WHEREAS, During the altercation, Keith Fahrney was stabbed in the neck and slashed on the back of his head by the assailant, which required him to receive three stitches underneath his chin and eight staples for his head injury; and

WHEREAS, Keith Fahrney was applauded by officers on the scene for his bravery and his assistance in catching the assailant; his quick actions ensured the survival of the victim and potentially saved others who likely would have been seriously harmed if he had not intervened to stop the assailant's series of attacks; and

WHEREAS, Since the attacks, Keith Fahrney has been honored at a Rockford IceHogs hockey game, where he was named a Hometown Hero; he has also expressed hope that his actions might inspire others to come to the aid of those in need; and

WHEREAS, Keith Fahrney is not only a fantastic husband and father, but he is the embodiment of what it means to be a good Samaritan; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Keith Fahrney for his courage and good Samaritanism in protecting his community of Rockford, and we wish him happiness and healing in his future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Keith Fahrney as an expression of our esteem and respect.
