SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David Malcolm "Butch" Armstead of Bazemore, Alabama, who passed away on February 25, 2013; and

WHEREAS, David Armstead was born on August 14, 1943, in Waukegan, to Woodson and Earnie (Harris) Armstead; he attended Trinity African Methodist Church in Waukegan and gradated from North Chicago Community High School in 1961, where he played football and basketball; he graduated from Yankton College in Yankton, South Dakota, where he also played basketball; he served his country in the United States Army from 1966-1971 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain; he married Linda McCollum on March 28, 1969; and

WHEREAS, David Armstead worked for Johnson & Johnson in Chicago in the human resources department and was later employed as a manager by the Miller Brewing Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, David Armstead relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, in the late 1980s and worked in personnel administration; he served in the Arizona House of Representatives, representing District 23, from 1992 to 1998; and

WHEREAS, David Armstead was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Walter Odell Armstead; and

WHEREAS, David Armstead is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda; his son, David (Denne') Armstead; his daughter, Linda (Marques) January; his grandson, Tyler; his granddaughter, Taylor; his brother, Robert (Debra) Armstead; his sisters, Betty (Ernest) Fisher and Marcia Blassingame; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of David Malcolm "Butch" Armstead, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Armstead as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
